located just 11 miles south of the Capital Beltway on I-95 at exit
160 and then north on Gordon Blvd/Rte 123 to Commerce Street.

Occoquan is located at 38°40′58″N, 77°15′39″W and is accessible
by car, boat, raft, bike, and foot traffic. Access is
available by road, river and the
East Coast Greenway.
Occoquan is also conveniently located just minutes from the
Amtrak Auto Train stop in Lorton, VA. Unlike a plane or
the car, the auto train provides onboard entertainment, a lounge car
and a dining car as it takes both you and your vehicle on a stress
free journey to Florida. So when you next consider a trip to
Florida, please remember your opportunities of shopping and dining

The Town of Occoquan continues its commemoration of the
150th anniversary of the Civil War with:
Robert Alton, the author of Stratagem 1861, will
lecture on the early history of the Civil War in
northern Virginia at 10:30 Hours (10:30 AM)
Brady's
Michigan Sharpshooters will re-enact a skirmish that
occurred in Occoquan on February 3, 1862 at 11:30 Hours
(11:30 AM)
The Sharpshooters will be encamped near the Tourist
Information Center (200 Mill Street) where they will
perform drill and firearm demonstrations after the
re-enactment.

The
Loft Gallery is hosting "From Oquossoc to Occoquan: an
Artist’s Journey"
Featuring original paintings and drawings by
award-winning artist Kathleen Best Gillmann
The exhibit includes landscapes and waterscapes
extending from Oquossoc, Maine, to Occoquan, Virginia, with
a detour to Minnesota's Lake Superior.
As an outdoor enthusiast and Maine native, Ms.
Gillman interprets nature in its many moods, the
mercurial qualities of water, the subtle and vibrant
textures of foliage, and the effects of atmosphere,
sunlight and weather.
For three consecutive years, her dramatic landscapes
have juried into the Art League’s annual International Scapes Show, winning an honorable mention
for her most recent submission, "Beach Houses at Lord’s
Point."

Sherry describes her most recent works as not being
about the subject matter as much as they are about her
emotional response to color and pattern and light and
dark. “Bright colors and shapes lift my spirits and
bring me a sense of joy!" she explains. "I haunt flea
markets and thrift stores to collect reflective objects
to highlight the yards and yards of brightly patterned
fabrics that are the inspiration for my still life
works.”
