Featuring original paintings and drawings by award-winning artist Kathleen Best Gillmann The exhibit includes landscapes and waterscapes extending from Oquossoc, Maine, to Occoquan, Virginia, with a detour to Minnesota's Lake Superior. <br />
<br />
As an outdoor enthusiast and Maine native, Ms. Gillman interprets nature in its many moods, the mercurial qualities of water, the subtle and vibrant textures of foliage, and the effects of atmosphere, sunlight and weather. <br />
<br />
For three consecutive years, her dramatic landscapes have juried into the Art League’s annual International Scapes Show, winning an honorable mention for her most recent submission, "Beach Houses at Lord’s Point." <br />
<br />
The Loft Gallery is located at 313 Mill Street, upstairs, in Historic Occoquan. <br />

            <title>Civil War Re-enactment in Occoquan on February 25th</title>
            <description>Join on us February 25, 2012, as Occoquan continues its commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, with an historical lecture, a re-enactment, and a Civil War encampment.  At 10:30 a.m., Robert Alton, the author of Stratagem 1861, will lecture on the early history of the Civil War in northern Virginia.  Then at 11:30 a.m., Brady&apos;s Michigan Sharpshooters will re-enact a skirmish that occurred in Occoquan on February 3, 1862. Afterward, you can visit the Sharpshooters at their encampment near the Tourist Information Center (200 Mill Street) and see them drill and do firearm demonstrations.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;


Details for the day&apos;s event may be found at the Occoquan Historical Society web site; and if you sign up for the event  on Facebook later than February 23, 2012, you can pick up a voucher at the Tourist Information Center (200 Mill Street) between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on February 25 that entitles you to 10% off an entree at Madigan&apos;s Waterfront Restaurant, the Blue Arbor Cafe, the  Garden Kitchen, and  Tastefully Yours (other restaurants/shops may be added later). The voucher can be picked up and used only on February 25.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

 
So enjoy the lecture, re-enactment, and encampment, and then cap the day off with a stroll through Historic Occoquan and visit some of our wonderful shops, restaurants, and our Mill House Museum!</description>
